Book Review: Heart-Shaped Box

I recently had the pleasure of reading Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill. This is the story about an aging heavy-metal star who collects artifacts of the macabre: A cookbook for cannibals, a used hangman’s noose, a snuff film. He gets more than he bargains for when he buys a dead man’s suit over the internet. The suit is haunted and after it is delivered in a black, heart-shaped box, the suits former owner is everywhere… behind the bedroom door, in his car, in his office, watching TV and all the while, dangling a gleaming razor blade on a chain from one hand. The ghost knows the rocker and wants him and anyone foolish enough to help him… to die.

Heart-Shaped Box is a perverse, dark, mesmerizing, and often witty horror tale of the highest caliber and quite frankly the most intense, disturbing and downright scary book I’ve read in a decade. In short, I love it. Seriously folks, if you’re a fan of good suspense, then this book is a must have for your collection.
