Book Review: The Rest Falls Away

As most of you know, I’ve been catching up on my reading of late. My TBR pile is finally dwindling and I wanted to take a moment to tell you about The Rest Falls Away by Colleen Gleason. This was an amazingly well crafted book, filled with twists, turns and enough suspense to leave your muscles crying for mercy from prolonged periods of clenching. It is a fantastic story about a vampire hunter coming to terms with both her responsibilities as a slayer and her place in high society. Oh, and it happens to be a romance novel, though I must admit the romantic element plays subtly in the background while the author runs her expertly fleshed out characters through the hell and back. The action scenes are topnotch and manage to create a vivid picture of exactly what’s going on without dragging the story down. Mrs. Gleason has proven to be a phenomenal plotter and pacer and I look forward to reading more of her work.

Beneath the glitter of dazzling 19th-century London Society lurks a bloodthirsty evil... .

Vampires have always lived among them, quietly attacking unsuspecting debutantes and dandified lords as well as hackney drivers and Bond Street milliners. If not for the vampire slayers of the Gardella family, these immortal creatures would have long taken over the world.

In every generation, a Gardella is called to accept the family legacy, and this time, Victoria Gardella Grantworth is chosen, on the eve of her debut, to carry the stake.

But as she moves between the crush of ballrooms and dangerous, moonlit streets, Victoria's heart is torn between London's most eligible bachelor, the Marquess of Rockley, and her enigmatic ally, Sebastian Vioget.

And when she comes face to face with the most powerful vampire in history, Victoria must ultimately make the choice between duty and love.
