Shameless self-promotion of my writing skills or lack there of.

Ha Ha!

A visitor to a certain college paused to admire the new Hemingway Hall that had been built on campus.
"It's a pleasure to see a building named for Ernest Hemingway," he said.
"Actually," said his guide, "it's named for Joshua Hemingway. No relation."
The visitor was astonished. "Was Joshua Hemingway a writer, also?"
"Yes, indeed," said his guide. "He wrote a check."

I used to tutor kids on how to beat the SAT. One kid, son of an obviously very wealthy family refused to do any of his homework. Mommy kept getting me in for more tutoring hours. Kid kept talking he was going to Cornell, bragging about his highly expensive boys boarding school in Connecticut. I finally told Mommy that more tutoring wasn't going to make up for the kid actually doing the work. Told the kid the only way he was getting into Cornell was if Daddy built them a library.

I felt bad later, though. He was an unhappy kid with parents who thought the solution to everything was throwing more money at it. They thought life was about connections, not about content.

I did that job for a while and was inside a lot of wealthy homes, met a lot of kids. I wish I could apologize to all the ones like that kid for my remarks. It was a lousy thing to do. I owe them all thank you notes - for teaching me compassion.

Lime, you are quite welcome.

Brandon, sadly...yes.

M.G., we can never undo our mistakes, but at least you learned from them. Who knows, maybe the remarks may have even had some positive benefit on their lives later down the road.

Sandra, I'll name a kid after him if he wrote me a check.
