What kind of American English do you speak?

Your Linguistic Profile:

35% Yankee

25% Dixie

25% General American English

10% Upper Midwestern

5% Midwestern

Ok, so I took this test that I found over at Empty Writing (Thanks Matt)http://www.livejournal.com/users/mtreiten/

Yeah, It looks like my English reflects the fact that I have lived everywhere. How did yours turn out?

What an interesting 'test'. I speak 70% General American English, 20% Dixie, 5% Yankee, and 5% Midwesterner. I suppose I speak proper English. I know I can spell that way anyhow. Ha! Ha!

Where do you think your "Midwesterner" comes from?

I have no idea, but it's 5% there I suppose. This was a great idea. I posted the 'What age do you act?' quiz on my blog. I suppose I'm about the same age as you and Bones in that respect. Getting married at 19 years old and having children will do that to a person. Being on my own at the age of 15 probably helped with that also.

Yeah, I posted my results on your blog, but it said I was a nice young 30 years old. whoo hoo!!!!

Well I am English and speak it very well and I came out:
45% General American English
35% Yankee
15% Dixie
5% Midwestern
0% Upper Midwestern

Go figure!

That's funny. Where there any questions that didn't have any words that you would actually use in everyday speak?

I only ask because the few English speakers that I have been exposed to had some fairly peculiar names for everyday items (Yes, I am sure that the names I would use for the same items were just as peculiar)but for the most part used the same vocabulary as your average New Yorker.

The only question I didn't get was the toilet paper one. The rest I could get. Interesting.

So, I take it that you didn't do alot of TPing when you were growing up. :)

What is that? Can you explain?

It is a practical joke that involes a group of teenagers (usually) several rolls of bathroom tissue and some poor suckers house, trees etc.

The hooligans descend on the house in the middle of the night. You...er they hold the loose end of the roll with one hand and toss it over some portion of their property. Repeat process until the house and trees are covered with toilet paper. It is a bad thing to wake up to under normal circumstances, but it is even funnier... oops, I mean worse when it rains after the tping takes place.
